EDITION Hotels, the brand co-founded by Marriott International and Ian Schrager, has opened its first hotel on the African continent at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront: The Cape Town EDITION. Designed by Neri&Hu, the hotel was built with more than six million hand-laid bricks and overlooks the Waterfront’s new superyacht marina, with Table Mountain in view.

“As one of the world’s most compelling cultural capitals, Cape Town is a natural home for EDITION,” said George Fleck, the brand’s Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader, of the hotel’s debut on the continent.
The 142 rooms and suites include a 240-square-metre Penthouse and a 112-square-metre Harbour Suite. At its centre sits “The Drum,” a sky-lit cylindrical atrium linked by a spiral staircase to a rooftop viewing platform; interiors feature work by Zanele Muholi, Usha Seejarim and Chuma Maweni, alongside rugs by Shuttleworth Weaving.
On the food side, Executive Chef Phil Carmichael leads the South African wine-focused signature restaurant Shale, alongside the rooftop pool restaurant and bar EAVE; a below-sea-level spa with five treatment rooms, a couples’ suite, sauna and steam room rounds out the hotel’s wellness offering.
