Baume & Mercier has crowned its partnership with Italy’s historic classic car race, the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia, with a new addition to its iconic Riviera family: the Riviera Chronograph GPSI Limited Edition. Carrying the integrated-case architecture that defined 1970s sports watch design into the present, the model received its first hands-on coverage from the international watch press on 26 October 2026.
An Integrated Architecture Built on Track Heritage
The 41mm, 13.94mm-thick stainless steel case follows a dodecagonal silhouette, its sunray-brushed top surface framed by four hexagonal screws that recreate the mechanical aesthetic of the racetrack on the wrist. On the matte opaline white dial, applied Roman numerals and diamond-cut indexes pair with semi-skeletonised dauphine hour and minute hands; forest-green accent rings around the subdials and outer minute scale, together with red chronograph hands, bring a vivid racing contrast to the piece.
Beneath the dial beats the automatic Valjoux 7753 chronograph calibre, offering a 48-hour power reserve at 28,800 vibrations per hour, its bridges finished with perlage and its rotor decorated with Côtes de Genève. A sapphire crystal caseback bears an aged-tone print of the Gran Premio Storico d’Italia logo, a direct nod to the watch’s racing lineage. Water-resistant to 100 metres, the model is completed with an integrated black rubber strap with a textile-style finish and a butterfly deployant clasp.
Watch writer Sean Lorentzen, who tested the piece on the wrist, noted that “the actual experience on the wrist is a far cry from what the numbers imply,” calling the Riviera Chronograph GPSI “a thoughtful, handsome twist on the race chronograph formula.”
Baume & Mercier has not yet disclosed the exact production run for the limited edition. The brand positions this new link to the Riviera family’s motorsport heritage as a strategic step in reinforcing the collection’s sporting identity.
