Korea’s luxury automotive brand Genesis unveils the third chapter of its artistic partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Art: Beijing-based artist Liu Wei’s four-part monumental sculpture series ‘Speculation’ has been redefining the museum’s Fifth Avenue facade since September 17.
Under the Genesis Facade Commission programme, Liu Wei — following Lee Bul and Jeffrey Gibson — combines fibreglass composite, steel, aluminium alloy and leather. The four works, named after physical constants, explore themes of fragmentation and transformation through architectural remnants and bodily forms.
Genesis Art Director DooEun Choi notes that ‘the artist’s singular language illuminates the problems of contemporary reality by reconfiguring familiar forms’. This cultural investment, extending beyond car showrooms, remains open until June 2027 as a quiet reflection of the brand’s ‘luxury defined by subtraction’ philosophy on the museum’s walls.
