Vacheron Constantin has unveiled two new watches to mark the Year of the Goat, which begins in the Chinese zodiac calendar in February 2027: ‘The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac – Year of the Goat’. This year’s addition to the brand’s Métiers d’Art zodiac watch tradition, running since 2012, comes in platinum and 18K pink gold references; both models use the brand’s in-house calibre 2460 G4.
A Goat Carved in Stone, With Two Weeks of Enamel Work
On the dial, a three-dimensional goat perched on a rock is hand-sculpted in pink or white gold, with relief engraving bringing out details such as horns and fur. The background is a misty landscape built up in multi-coloured grand feu enamel with a subtle gradient, with miniature-painted enamel foliage layered on top; the enamel is applied in fine brushstrokes layer by layer and kiln-fired after each pass, a process repeated until the colours reach the right tone, taking roughly two weeks in total. Hands-free apertures at 11 and 2 o’clock show the hours and minutes, while jumping day and date displays sit in the lower apertures — no conventional hands cross the dial.
The 40mm case, 12.72mm thick, is made in 950 platinum or 18K 5N pink gold, with a sapphire caseback and 30m water resistance. Inside, the automatic calibre 2460 G4 is built from 237 components and 27 jewels, runs at 28,800 vph, offers roughly 40 hours of power reserve, and carries an openworked 22K yellow gold rotor decorated with a Maltese cross; one of its bridges bears the Hallmark of Geneva. Finished with a hand-stitched alligator strap (dark brown or dark blue) and a folding clasp bearing a half Maltese cross, the watches are limited to 25 pieces per reference, 50 in total.
