Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its first all-electric SUV engineered entirely in-house by the brand’s own team. The GT SUV took the stage at a global launch held at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart on October 17, becoming the second model to ride on AMG’s performance-focused AMG.EA architecture, after the GT 4-Door Coupé introduced earlier this year.
Three power options
The new model arrives in three power tiers. The entry-level GT 53 produces 400 kW (roughly 544 hp), while the GT 55 raises that figure to 600 kW. At the top of the range, the GT 63 uses three axial-flux motors to reach 860 kW (1,169 PS), sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. Versions fitted with the larger 128 kWh battery pack offer up to 700 km of WLTP range, with DC fast-charging support reaching up to 710 kW.
All-wheel drive with AMG Performance 4Matic+
The GT SUV rides on AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive with active rear-axle steering, and replaces conventional anti-roll bars with AMG Active Ride Control+ air suspension. Carbon-ceramic brakes come as standard on the GT 63, while the GT 55 and GT 63 gain an active rear spoiler and front air-curtain system for improved aerodynamic efficiency. Inside, the new MBUX interface running on the MB.OS platform integrates ChatGPT, Bing and Gemini, and the AMG Force driving mode lets the electric SUV simulate the characteristic sound of AMG’s V8 and six-cylinder engines.
Built in Sindelfingen
Built at the Sindelfingen plant under the direct engineering oversight of AMG’s team in Affalterbach, the GT SUV is positioned by the brand as a rival to the Porsche Cayenne Electric. European order books for the entry-level GT 53 opened on October 20.
